Cloudy Daze at Rum Point | Grand Cayman

After nine days of serving martinis, margarita’s and mixing fancy cocktails for which I have no clue, I had a day off. I was looking forward to spending the day in the sun with my loved one, relaxing Caribbean side in a hammock while sipping local beers and taking dips into warm waters off the coast of Cayman.

Instead, the weather changed its ugly head and with it brought downpours and heavy black clouds. We weren’t going to let the rain spoil our day and we decided to make like tourists and head off to Rum Point.

Rum Point is named so, after barrels of rum were washed ashore from a ship wreck some years ago, when pirates so bravely sailed these waters.

We parked the car and set off on foot to explore this stunning corner of paradise and this is what we found.

Funny, little pink houses. How I would love to live here.

Then we found the bar, which I found oddly hilarious.

And just outside the bar we noticed this chalkboard, filled with questions tourists ask. Sometimes I wonder where people have left their head when they go on vacation.

Do you let black, cloudy days spoil your travel plans?

  1. Oh wow…!!! This has given me SUCH a flashback to when we lived not far from Rum Point, down on North Point 🙂 We’re still dreaming of making it back to Cayman one of these days…if only it wasn’t so far from the rest of ‘our’ world these days!

    • Where are you living now? Did you work on the island back in the day? It’s such a wonderful driving trip up to Rum Point, even the clouds could not spoil our day. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

A ‘bad day’ there is better than any ‘good day’ up here… As you well know!

There are stupid people everywhere. The fact that religion exists is enough evidence.

One of the best ones I have ever heard was while on a tour bus in Hawaii and an a woman who was clearly and American (strong southern accent) asked the driver if Americans live in Hawaii…. Here’s your sign! … You are one lucky Canadian girl living down there….

The really rum questions comment was meant to go here!

  6. There should be a sign in Niagara Falls like this one 🙂 I started keeping track of stupid questions tourists asked when I worked there. The best had to be when do they turn off the falls? I would sometimes laugh, but then realised they were serious!
So has hubby come to see you 🙂 I know how hard it is to be apart.

    Some mother’s children… you just can’t take them anywhere… 😉

  8. What an interesting and attractive place!
